Product design, prototyping and 3D printing for East Kilbride

HW3D works with engineers, product developers and small manufacturers in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, on product design, CAD and prototyping. We are based in Bothwell, near Uddingston, Glasgow: send us your files, post parts to us, or drop them off in Bothwell by arrangement. We also work across Glasgow, Lanarkshire and the rest of Scotland.

From sketch or CAD to prototype

Start with whatever you have: a sketch, a description of the problem, an existing part or your own CAD. We design in Autodesk Fusion 360, capture existing objects with Revopoint 3D scanners and print prototypes on Bambu Lab printers.

Each prototype is made to check fit and function, so the next revision is based on a part you have held and tested, not just a model on screen.

Case study: CAD and prototyping for Flytpath Aviation

For Flytpath Aviation's full-motion flight simulator platform, HW3D reviewed existing CAD assemblies, designed new bespoke components and produced functional 3D printed prototypes for real-world evaluation.

When the prototype works

Once a design is proven, it can go straight into production. Batch runs range from 10 to 10,000+ parts, with no tooling fees. Qualifying batch projects can request a free sample before committing to a run, with no payment and no obligation.

Design ownership, IP and confidentiality

CAD files, design ownership, IP and any NDA are agreed in writing before the relevant stage begins.

If you need an NDA, tell us in your project description.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work from CAD files we already have?

Yes. We can review existing CAD, refine it in Autodesk Fusion 360 and print fit-check prototypes from it, as we did when reviewing Flytpath Aviation's existing CAD assemblies. If you have a print-ready STL, 3MF or OBJ file, you can also upload it to the instant quote to check a price.

Will you sign an NDA?

An NDA can be discussed where appropriate. CAD files, design ownership, IP and any NDA are agreed in writing before the relevant stage begins.

Do I need to visit you in Bothwell?

No. You can send files, sketches and photographs to us, and parts can be posted in either direction. If you would rather hand something over in person, drop-off and collection in Bothwell are by arrangement only.

What file types does the instant quote accept?

The instant quote accepts print-ready STL, 3MF or OBJ files. If you only have a sketch, or CAD that still needs design work, contact us instead.

How long does it take to get a prototype?

Most jobs in 3–5 working days.
